I will also raise a glass for Robert Vaughn, the last of the Magnificent Seven rides off into the sunset.

The theme tune for the Man from Uncle is one of the all time classics.

Coming Sunday, it 'll be 23 years since Frank Zappa died. Happen to be spending the evening at my father's, who introduced me to both whisky and Zappa, although not in that order. A dram or 2 will be raised I'm sure...

Tonight I will raise a glass to Peter Vaughn who has just died aged 93. He said he has never been out of work in 70 years in the business, playing many, many characters. When people saw him in the street, they would still shout "Grouty" (Harry Grout from Porridge).

After watching the Queen of Sheba episode I wondered if the marvellous Liz Smith was still with us - so I checked on Wiki.

After hearing about Carrie Fisher suffering an incident en route to LA - I checked on Wiki.

Then I saw a rendition of Rufus Wainwright's "Going to a town" and checked for other examples renditions on Youtube - eventually ended up on Wiki on George Michael's entry.

I'm shocked and appauled by the loss of talent this year and will now boycott Wiki.

RIP all those sadly lost this year. I raise a glass to the joy you've brought happy

Putting together a -80's playlist I just found out that UK/Aussie actor/musician Jon English also passed away this year.
Outside Australia he was probably more famed in Scandinavia than in UK and rest of Europe, but a great artist none the less.
He died 9. March from complications after surgery, only days away from his 67th birthday.

Well, isn't 2017 of to a good start?

The difference with 2016 was that we seemed to lose a whole ton of people well before their time.  While we've lost a few greats in 2017 already, it's been primarily people well into their golden years who'd had time to live rich full lives.  We'll lose celebrities in their 70s, 80s, 90s every year, it's tragically inevitable. Sorry, that sounds terribly callous, but what I mean is it's just a lot more shocking when we lose people middle-aged or in their prime.

Just heard, gutted, genuinely one of my favourite actors, too many great performances to mention but his performance in The Elephant Man has to be my favourite. This man could read a toilet roll wrapper and make it sound interesting. R.I.P John, I will definitely raise something special tonight.
