Bad features or bugs you dont want to see anymore in version 4

Here you can name the features or pages from this version (version 3) of Whiskybase which doesn't work for you. So, what must be better in version 4 and why?

For example: on the Maps page you can't search for a certain Shop or Hotel if you don't know the exact name. I think that there must be a good search option on the Maps pages.

A rather missing feature IMHO.

In Community/Members, in addition to the number of members from a given country, you can add an option to display/list the members from that country. This will skip the annoying search through the Alphabet.

Many thanks in advance.

Manchester United could win fifty titles, but they will always be the rolling stones of football. good, just not quite that band from Liverpool.

yep, That is a good one. We had it in version 2 but in version 3 it is somehow gone.

You probably know mine, but priority wise for me, top to bottom in each section.
Most of them have their own thread in the forum somewhere I created at some point in the past...
Cheers.
c.

Features/annoyances:

- customizable list views all around (I as a user want to define what Database fields I see in the lists...)

- enhance parent/child display in list views - if I have any data on a child bottle (own, rates, etc), I can not see any of it in list view and it's time consuming to drill down to my data / the data I am interrested in
- make the review process & edits to a page transparent (i.e. discogs/wiki style change logs) for specialists AND every WB user
- remove frustrations from the send-a-bottle process - show global & personal queue (what is submitted, what have I submitted, and make it editable while it's waiting for review)
- remove frustrations from the send-a-bottle process - add a 'clone' functionality
- distillery list view - keep user settings/preferences (expanded, etc)

New Features I would like to see (but I would prefer old issues [above] to be fixed first before attempting to add new features...)
- make a marketplace sale history available for all users
- make the marketplace fun to explore and look for bottles
- better handling of time-frames, i.e. for bottle ranges/designs/batches to give a better idea when a given bottle design was in circulation (eg a parent bottle, for Glenmorangie 10yo ,2nd generation should clearly able to state that this design was produced FROM, eg 1982, TO, eg 1988...)

- add date when added to collection ( https://www.whiskybase.com/group/70/topic/14195/list-collection-date-bottle-was-added-to-my-collection )
- log achieved auction prices from various sources (comes with a whole new set of issues....legal, organisational, etc... but, it would be nice still... )

Minor Bugs:
- fix private notes
- Activity Widget bugs:
https://www.whiskybase.com/group/71/topic/12566/all-activity-widgets-brand-bottle-names

There's probably some more... :D

One more for the send-a-bottle - send a picture along with the bottle

Make the column with the whisky name wider or at least add the full name also in the hover. Good example why is that needed: https://www.whiskybase.com/brand/81372/glenmorangie

Better own shopping links management - edit/delete right from the grid without opening the bottles page one by one

Also will be good to be able to browse by "Bottling serie"

True, that should be somewhere around the top on my lists as well...

Also, quite odd to see that out of 26379 Members, there's only 6 who joined this group and are interested in this topic...
Apart from the fact that few people use the forum, my interpretation/guess is that this also reflects how people feel about getting involved in Whiskybase due to past experiences ( I know many people who were rather active on WB but got pissed off over the last years due to intransparencies and Whiskybase acting against its own stated mission/goal...  i.e. last time there was a call for input, there was very little interaction throughout and afterwards and user feedback is barely taken into consideration seriously or communicated about - which is your good right as you offer this service for free, but please be honest & transparent about it!!!
Also, the announced further integration of the whiskybase.shop (a commercial venture) into the main whiskybase (a non-commercial community platform, as stated for years...) I do see as problematic.
So there is the  criticizm about that still standing in the room that Whiskybase/shop has to endure and still comment on as well. Both of the above issues I find rather troubling and difficult.

Cheers.

Alectron, I just ask for features in this version that doesnt work for you and dont want to see in the next version. You are kind of going off topic here with your past grievances. If you have suggestions for improvement regarding communications or the process, please let me know via PM or mail.

Thanks,
menno

If you want to edit a tasting note after a while (eg because of some typos) the color of the whisky is set back to its default value (gin clear or so). You might want to look into that.

Hey Menno,
in my first post I did mention a list of technical processes/bugs/oddities that are still far away from being ideal for me and need improving in my opinion.

And, as for the second post, I do think the way WB deals & interacts with its' community is a big feature in itself as it was(?)/is(?) a community website after all. So community interaction (and transparency) is something that should be high on the agenda. I'll write you a mail ove rthe next weeks with more constructive suggestion regarding this.

Cheers.

in admin overview you always have 1 "send a bottles" even if there are much more inside, would help to get there the correct number shown.

when destillerypic is send in it would be nice to have the same options to edit (download, replace etc.) pic first as you have at bottlepics.

improve the search function

- that you only get that results you search for (now it is filled with similar results even if there is only 1 or 2 matching results)

- add possibility to search for strength etc. (when you now search a specific strength you get nothing helpfull even if the strength is in base

add the possibility to delete the deleted mails (just to get rid of it and save space)

give frontpage widgets an option to see the last 30,40 or 100 entries (at the moment you cant see for e.g. at the a last added bottles only 10, but if you are 2 days not online you miss maybe something; other widgets have the same Problem)

I know that my post contains bugs and new features, so please consider them for both areas.

Further, it may be wise to describe who is the admin in cases of help. Many people don't know it's Roger and start a topic about it.

a bug, which should be fixed.

at the Moment i get on regular base mails for an shoplink-error but when i look, my shoplink is already gone. But often when i check with my list i find the link again and ist still valid ! So how can it be that the link is already gone and no 4-eyes-check if it is realy an error ? I think mostly this is used to push a price because my links where always the cheapest price in the row.

Thats a nice idea, we want to make the widgets more editable so the user can adjust it more to his needs.

In version 4 we want to make more help-buttons to ask a question to an Admins or Specialists of that section of the site. Roger is now only for the Marketplace. The Help pages must be expand too, now its only the marketplace.

I have experienced the same problems.
Shoplink removed while bottle was still available ?
I have for the moment 1500 + shoplinks placed ! so i see this happen frequently.
It all starts off course with the fake shoplink errors that are reported to bump up prices.

Greetings wink

Searchable mail/PMs - i.e. as is, just had a case where I would like to look up old PMs from specific people, but the only way to do so is to flick through 50+ pages of PMs by hand.
Churs.

Same here happy
Maybe an idea to put subfolders in the mail section.
So that you can put mails from certain people in a specific folder, just like in windows mail or incredimail, etc.

If you add a bottle, it's not possible to add more than 1 in one time. Maybe this could be fixed.

With a lot of regular OB bottelings a 'Bottled' year is given, while the bottling has been/is in production for several years.

Look at this Bunna 12 for example: https://www.whiskybase.com/whisky/5890/

It says Bottled: 2006, but this particular botteling is produced from 2006 (not even sure of that) until 2010. Now the database says that every bottle that looks like this, is bottled in 2006 (and people are selling the bottles with this information), while the majority is bottled later.

Same goes for this one: https://www.whiskybase.com/whisky/463. Even a vintage is given in this case, which is really strange (as everybody know that the whisky is 'at least' 18 years old, so how can you know the vintage?

I would opt for a field like 'In production from: [2006]' and maybe a 'In production until: [2010]', that would make the information much more true.

Hello everyone

Right know I'm not able to remove any bottles from my collection.
The remove button doesn't work.
Very annoying ...

Anyone else having this problem?

Cheers, D.

Hi,

I searched for a 25 year-old Whisky from New Zealand a few days ago, using the search term "zealand". Unfortunately I didn't find it and neither found out that NZWC was listed as a bottler. So I sent the bottle.

A little later I found the bottle by accident:

Unfortunately there was no way to stop the process, so Alectron approved the new bottle before he himself found the bottle and he made the bottle inactive. ‎‎

This shows to me that this process is a little intransparent even for the specialists. Now I don't know how to achieve that, but the whole process should be more transparent.

...and definitely the search function MUST be improved!

Apparently, there are some problems with opening the website from Windows Edge.

I like the idea about checkpoints but it doesn't work really well for me. When recording a lot of checkpoints the graph gets quite confusing. Maybe it would be better to have a linear time line on the x-axis (from date of first checkpoint to current date) with only a few calculated between dates as orientation. This way the x-axis would be readable all the time and not impacted by the number of check points recorded.

Besides the graph would be completely aligend with the real time line enabling you to better recognize the date distance between two neighbor checkpoints. Currently this is a constant of one unit on the x-axis thus killing visualizable information.

On top I'm missing the possibility to delete checkpoints in order to correct errors or to simply clean up the history.

Best regards,
-zholthran

What also doesn't work for me is the "Feature Suggestion & Bugs" section in the forum. Too less activity, guidance, consolidation and clustering by administration, no real ticket system for bugs, no template how to formally suggest features, no voting mechanism to let the users prioritize bugs and features. The result is what we have here: tabula rasa with a new group for v4 where none of the information of the "Feature Suggestion & Bugs" section is transparently taken into account. Instead there are two new topics for collecting bugs & feature suggestions making it now impossible to put good ideas into the right bucket.

So the basic idea would be to have a dedicated backlog for features and bugs. Have it prioritized by user votes, cluster it by functional domain (e.g. content, whisky records, user features, search functionalities, forum, marketplace, etc.), make it easy to avoid duplicates by offering good search functionalities, honor the user's work by putting appropriate effort into keeping this backlog tidy, comprehensive and up to date. Put your own ideas into this backlog and again let the users vote. And finally use this backlog (at least to a transparent extend) to drive your development agenda.

You don't even need to implement such a backlog by yourself as there should be plenty of communities working that way. So the rights tools should already be there. Don't reinvent the wheel, just use the right tools.

Best regards,
-zholthran
