Welcome to this group.
I made this group because there were no groups about Japanese Whisky and its scene.

I'm trying to introduce Japanese Whisky, Bars, Distilleries and its scene for all of the WHISKYBASE members.

If you are interested in Japan, why not be a member of this group?

Totally hooked on Japanese whisky, as you can see from my collection. I am even selling Scottish whisky to pay for it.

This group sounds very interesting and hopefully will keep us up to date with the Japanese Whisky market and scene

Good luck in its venture

I collect Japanese Whiskys and enjoy drinking them too.

They are totally awesome and I'm reducing my collection to get more and more of them.
Looking forward to dealing with some of you guys that live over there so as to be able to get some bottles at "normal" price instead of our prices

I like the diversity of the Japanese malts. My favorites are Mars and Chichibu. Hope to hear about new bottlings in this group.

The first whisky I ever bought (as a gift for my father, but I enjoyed it with him) was a Japanese whiskey, Yamazaki 12yo. It might be nostalgia but I really liked it and my father aswell, had we known at the time how the prices of Japanese whiskey were going to evolve we probably would have bought a whole case of it.

So I'm very interested to hear if there are still some good, but affordable Japanese whiskey's out there I should look out for!

I particularly like Nikka whiskies: Miyagikyo 12 Year Old for the casual drink and Whisky from the Barrel when I am feeling like something heavier with a lot of sherry in it.

Probably the rarest Japanese whisky I have tried to date is the Karuizawa Spirit is Asama. It is surprising how expensive Japanese whisky has become.

visited with a japanese friend some of the famous italian whisky collectors and after that I visited him in tokyo to see some of the whisky bars.
Don't know exactly about my first japanese whiskies, maybe hakushu or yoichi.
Favourite japanese whiskies are still hakushu and yamazaki.
I like the harmony of peat and sweetness, which you find sometimes in a yamazaki or a hakushu.

Hello everyone,

My favourite japanese whiskies are Chichibu and the Yamazaki 18 years old and  Yoichi 1991. The most important for me is discovering new tastes and your experience

I've started drinking whisky with Lagavulin and Yoichi. One of my favorite expression is the Yamazaki 18 (amongst those that are still available).

On the exceptional ones that I've been able to taste I'll have :
- Hanyu Joker Monochrome - almost cried having this one, oak, dry fruits, tobacco, fruits and spices
- Yamazaki 1995 Owners Cask for LMDW - dry fruits and red fruits, typical japanese sherry cask plum feeling with spices and vanilla, lingery bittery plum finish
- Yamazaki 1986 25yo mizunara cask (from the distllery)
- Yamazaki 25 yo - 18yo on steroid, the influence of the sherry is strong, it goes toward the plum
- Hibiki 30 - you can feel the influence of each cask used for the blend, each at a different depth but with an awesome balance
- Chichibu TayBakChiang 2 Madeira Cask - remind me a lot of the Yamazaki 1995, really impressive for a 3yo
