About

'THE POT STILL'. The very name evokes the warmth of mellow single malt Scotch whisky. From the seaweed strewn bays of Islay, the rugged mountains of the Highlands and the clear, cool rivers of the Lowlands, malts of all persuasions mean quality and contentment to whisky lovers the world over. For anyone who has travelled to Glasgow they also mean the home of Scotland's premier whisky pub, The Pot Still, named after the earliest whisky stills and situated in the bustling city centre at 154 Hope Street. Lovers of a good Scotch have come from all over the world to this wonderful little pub and returned time and time again. The attraction? The hundreds (literally) of malt whiskies on display on the impressive gantry. It is not unusual to see Americans, Germans, Swedes, Danes, Japanese and Irish jostling with Glaswegian regulars at the bar for service from the attentive and cheery staff.

New hosts the Murphy family give everyone a warm welcome, a smile and...if you're lucky... some recommendations from the gantry. Ably assisted by their friendly staff, they attend to the social needs of a hard core of regulars. The Pot Still is a popular haunt of journalists and those in the financial and retail services. Stars of stage and screen such as actress Susannah York, comedian Phil Kay and musician Lloyd Cole have all been spotted enjoying the unique atmosphere of The Pot Still while taking a break from their performances in nearby theatres. For The Pot Still is at the heart of Glasgow's Theatre Land. The Theatre Royal is a couple of hundred yards up Hope Street, the Royal Concert Hall only minutes away at the head of Buchanan Street, the Pavilion even closer on Renfield Street and the King's Theatre only a 10 minute walk away on Bath Street.

The pub is also surrounded by the finest Spanish, Italian, Indian, Chinese and fusion restaurants in town, as well as being a stone's throw from the city centre cinema complexes. So, if you crave a warming malt whisky aperitif or digestif, somewhere to meet before and after a concert or film, where better a place than The Pot Still.

An amazing whisky bar with a superb owner, who recommended some fantastic whiskies for me to try after a short but detailed conversation.
