Color

Gin clear

Nose

mineral & sooty (old chimney), farmy as well (musty hay/barn), some sweetness (lemon, berries & gummybears ?) as well but slightly underneath, (87)

Taste

smoky/sooty & mineral as well, slightly farmy / heathery too, but sweetness gets a slight upper hand here after a second, nice complexity to it and hard to pick apart, honey, dried pineapple, strawberries (90)

Finish

smoke comes through more towards the end again and gentle malt & cereal shift to the fore with a few fruits poking through. (88)

Remember - whisky scores and impressions are highly subjective and situational by nature - so don't go and buy whisky according to someone else's taste...

Color

Pale straw

Nose

On the nose I get some soot, but it are the herbal notes that steal the show. Jute or flax, I would say. Wet hay, maybe? And a strange sweetness that I cannot pinpoint exactly, but it is not really fruit. The typical green apples are not there. This reminds me more of perfume. It takes a few minutes to become more fruity.

Taste

Oily and very, very sweet to begin with, but then the palate experiences a very smoky twist. Hello, peat! Well, that is rather unexpected for a Highlander, no? The apples that were absent on the nose, put me in my place here. Very fresh and green. Some ashes, too. And loads of black Darjeeling tea.

Finish

The finish is very long on sweet soot (if there were such a thing).

Comments

On the palate it matches the Landscapes version of The Whisky Agency, but it loses slightly on the nose, where the perfume made me raise an eyebrow. Apart there from, another great Ardmore. The Dutch bottler Kintra apparently also got part of this cask, but bottled it at 49,8% ABV.

Color

Jonquiripe corn

Nose

ein frischer Zitrushauch umgeben von dezent vanilligen Noten verschafft sich Geltung in der Nase. Mal sind es Werther´s Echte, mal mehr Kräuterbonbons, auf jeden Fall aber kommt dieser Ardmore trotz seiner "Volljährigkeit" noch recht jugendlich daher. Allerdings ohne störende Einflüsse, die so manch Pubertierender noch mitbringt, ergo ist der Alkohol gut bis sehr gut eingebunden. Wenn man etwas meckern möchte, dann dass es für eine Topnote an einer breiteren Aromenpalette fehlt.

Taste

Eine Rauchnote in etwa auf dem Niveau des Traditional Cask Ardmore, sehr angenehm zurückhaltend, aber dennoch irgendwo präsent. Kraftvoll und nunmehr eindeutig mehr kräuterlastig als in das süssliche Fach tendierend. Schönes, leicht feuchte Gras- und frische Heuaromen. Und dabei keine nennenswerte bittere Beinote, die man ansonsten oft als Nebenwirkung bei solchen Kräuternoten hinzunehmen hat. Auch am Gaumen kein Aromenwunder, aber insgesamt stimmig und überzeugend.

Finish

Ordentlich in der Länge und mittelherb.

Schwer zu sagen. Ich habe wenig auszusetzen und mir sogar gern noch ein wenig nachgeschenkt. Ein in höchsten Tönen schwelgender Freund dieses Ardmore werde ich gewiss nicht, aber dennoch hat er mich schon in seinen Bann gezogen.
