Color

Pale gold

Nose

Warming with classical Islay whisky aromas at first nosing.
Peaty and farmy notes, citrus fruits - mostly lemon, wet wool and a little vanilla. Surprisingly fresh and clean and oh so tasty.

Taste

Wow! Powerful explosion of peat, ash and creosote at first mouthfeel. This is really superb!
Also peppery with additional notes of liquorice, campher and lemonade.

Finish

Very long, warming from deep inside. The creosote aroma becomes more and more dominant.

Comments

Port Ellen at its very best. Recommended. Thank you whiskybase for the sample.

Color

Jonquiripe corn

Nose

Very good or at least exactly how I like my Port Ellen: sophisticated and subtle with bits of everything. Sharper notes (camphor, coal, wet wool) balanced by rounder elements (green banana, apple, vanilla). Lemon and mint. Pepper. Leather. Very much in line with other PE 1983s.

Taste

Starting on briny notes, peat and soot. Iodine. Returns slightly towards creamier notes but the sharpness never goes away.

Finish

Very long, with peat and liquorice.

Comments

Could this be a shared cask? Yes, possibly, or else it's a similarly high quality neighbour cask of the one(s) by The Whiskyman and Old Bothwell. Recommended, although it stretches the boundaries of whisky capitalism once again...
