Color

Old gold

Nose

oak and vanilla. Pineapple and a bit salty. Malt and a hint of chocolate.

Taste

oily, peppery and spicy. A bit salty but also the sweetness of vanilla.

Finish

pleasant bitterness (pepper). After that the sweetness of vanilla and candied fruits. Medium.

Comments

certainly one of the better whisky's of The Glenfiddich. This edition has a perfect balance.

Color

Old gold

Nose

Big oak influence hits first. Sharpness of alcohol needs to be sat through, then vanilla sweetness comes through. Soft spices in the background, together with some fresh fruit.

With water: The sharpness is lesser now, so is the oak. Vanilla runs the show now, as do the spices and malt. Fruit is harder to find.

Taste

Again oak is the first thing to hit me. Then comes big malt, after that the vanilla sweetness. Quite sharp but very warming. Spices and fruit come around as well.

With water: The big tingle is now gone, there's a more bitter edge to it at first. The oak more in the background, and the spice, vanilla and malt are more prominent. I like the burnt sugar bitterness to it. Oak shows its face later on.

Finish

Warming and enjoyable. A real oily feel in the mouth, coating the tongue completely, making it last longer than expected. It seems like adding the water is the cause of the oily feeling.

Comments

In either case a nice, warming whisky. Nothing that makes me go mad with lust, but still very enjoyable. I preferred this dram with some water, not too much.
