Deep copper

Nose

Rich and dark aromas of dates, fruits, spices and raisins with hints of smoke and oranges

Taste

Thick, creamy texture of butter, spices, malt and spices with hints of toffee, fruit, nuts, chocolate and sweets

Nice sherried nose, classic Glenfarclas with fruitcake, dried fruits, chocolate and a bit of coffee. Very nice balance, smooth but shows enough character. Clean sherry, not too much wood. Just a tad too thin, GF should bottle it at higher strenght (why not 46% as the 40yo?). Dangerously easy to drink and so good...

Nose: massive Sherry, Eiche, Rosinen, dunkle fruechte, Tobacco, suesse, Leder, erdbeermarmelade

Taste: wuerze, suess, schwer, leicht oelig, leichter chillicatch

Finish: laesst erst schnell nach aber dann lange anhaltend, sehr angenehm, weich,

Typischer Glenfarclas, love it!

Nose

The nose is, surprisingly enough, rather closed. My first reaction after the initial whiff is the herbal mix of Maggi! That means meaty and herbal. That is soon accompanied by dark, fruity notes such as raisins, dades and dried figs. Some caramelized oranges. A tad minty with some herbs. Pine needles! A bit waxy. Not bad, but I am not knocked off my socks either.

Taste

The attack is quite peppery (white pepper) and I get a lot of tannins (tea, woodsmoke). It is fruitier than on the nose, primarily on prunes and figs. Big sherry influence. Phew, this is a drying bloke. Midpalate, it turns rather bitter and a bit sourish à la wine vinager (although that sounds a lot worse than it really is).

Finish

The finish is long and more of the same, dying a salty death.

Comments

This is certainly a beautiful whisky, but I find the younger versions better (more fruit, less bitterness), especially the 17 Year Old. Around 150 EUR, which is a steal for a 30 year old whisky. But for that price, you can also buy two bottles of the 17 Year Old. Which is what I would do.

nicely tame sherry, honey, tobacco, some beeswax, (90)

great balance, malt, honey, beeswax, (92)

Finish

turns slightly dryer and some wood spices come through next to the very pleasant notes from above. (91)

Remember - whisky scores and impressions are highly subjective and situational by nature - so don't go and buy whisky according to someone else's taste...

Russetmuscat

Nose

Really complex aromas, sherry sweetness, caramel and vanilla notes with some spicy wood.

Taste

Dried fruits with vanilla and chocolate, nuts and marzipan. Soft smooth and warming.

Finish

Long and wonderful finish, chocolate and something like a brandy.

Comments

30 years for an absolute good price, really complex, maybe a ew v% to less.

Nose

tres riche, fruits (orange, raisins), notes maltees de sherry

Taste

sherry, un peu de "cognac", fruits, pates d'amandes, noix, cafe.

Finish

tres longue sur le cafe et le chocolat.

Un excellent Glenfarclas, peut-être un peu trop cher par rapport au 25ans qui n'en est pas tres loin.

Nose

Sehr sehr mild mit anfangs nur dezenten Vanille-/Karamellaromen und einem recht angenehmen Einfluss des Fassholzes. Nach einigen Minuten deutlich mehr Karamell, auch insgesamt recht sÃ�¼ÃŸlich, auch Rosinen und leichte bis mittelschwere Fruchtnoten dringen durch. Fast erwartungsgemÃ¤ÃŸ ausgesprochen rund und ausgewogen.

Taste

FÃ�¼r 43% Ã�¼berraschend kraftvoll und mit vollem KÃ¶rper, dennoch recht geschmeidig am Gaumen, angenehme bitter-sÃ�¼ÃŸe Noten, dunklere Schokolade, leichter Rauch, alles in allem recht trocken.

Finish

WÃ¤hrend er im Mund noch recht krÃ¤ftig herÃ�¼berkommt, scheinen ihm im Abgang vielleicht ein paar % zu fehlen. Aber insgesamt ist das "Jammern" auf verdammt hohem Niveau.

Comments

Schwer zu sagen, ob ich dem 25yo oder dem 30yo den Vorzug geben sollte. Ãœberraschend, dass beide sich noch recht deutlich unterscheiden. Angesichts des doch recht groÃŸen Preisunterschiedes siegt im PLV sicher der 25yo.
