Color

Amontillado sherry

Nose

A basket of fruit. Pears, banana, orange, kiwi, grapes, light malt and a hint of acetone. Later there's a hint of wood shavings.

Taste

Not as much fun as the nose. The palate seems quite hot. Plenty of fruit in the oven though and a stronger malt presence here. It settles to a quite zesty citrus and heavy spice. It definitely gets better with drinking.

Finish

Long very spicy finish that keeps washing overthe palate and leaving you in no doubt that you have had a cask strength whisky. Really quite woody at the end.

Comments

Lacking some of the sweetness I was expecting. The cask has had a lot of influence here, even though the colour would suggest a refill, rather than a fresh sherry cask. I suppose the fact that its a hogshead rather than a butt has made the influence stronger. All in all its very nice and getting better with drinking.

 

It's better to have drunk it all than never to have drunk at all.
