Pale straw
Nose

The nose is fresh and very aromatic, not to say honeysweet. What stands out is a lot of vanilla and a good dose of coconut. Then some sugar candy and strawberry jam. The second layer consists of citrus and a touch of oak. Fresh and lively nose. With water, breakfast cereals with loads of sugar are added.

Taste

The attack if powerful, fiery and alcoholic. A lot of pepper, ginger and some nutmeg. Now I also get some roasted nuts and more oak. Slightly burning, so let me add some water. Diluted it becomes sweeter and fruitier still, but also shows a lot more oak.

Finish

The rather short finish remains spicy and ends slightly bitter from the oak and liquorice.

Comments

This is a nice, sweet and spicy but otherwise little ambitious Glencadam. A good in betweener. Just under 60 EUR, which seems a fair price.

Gin clear
Nose

first:white wine +, malty sweetness +, flour-y o. (74)

after a bit: opens up nicely. wood comes through (white/young) +/o, some green vegie & fruit notes o/- (banana/celery) inbetween. Then quite a few fresh fruits (orange-oil, mirabelles & red apples) +/o, some spices o, vanilla bean o, (88)

later: zitronat (candied, waxy lemon & orange bits) o, some artificial perfumy notes o, vanilla pudding (creamy) +/o, wood becomes a bit older o. (83)

later & w water: mixed spices (sachet) & vanilla marshmellow topped mushrooms (yep....wtf ?) (76)

Taste

fruity malt sweetness with quite an astringent touch & some white chocolate (84)

Finish

2nd malty sweetness comeback wave, this time with some wood dryness o, green tea o/-, and a touch of lemon & smoke -.(83)

Comments

Not a bad malt, if not a bit too trivial, too little happening & quite a few artificial fruit esters for the age on the tongue ( I wonder what would have happened after another 5-10 years...? The nose indicated great things...). There seems to be a peak after 1-2 hrs in the glass after which it goes down very quickly, especially in the nose.

Remember - whisky scores and impressions are highly subjective and situational by nature - so don't go and buy whisky according to someone else's taste...
