Old gold
Nose

Hmmm, the nose shows a lot of the same characteristics as the bourbon matured, but is a lot sweeter. More fruit. The orchard fruit returns, but is now upholstered with berries from the woods and blood oranges. A lot of honey and some toffee. Pineapple on the grill. Juicy. The typical coastal traits are now limited to a soft salty sea breeze.

Taste

It is very luscious on the palate. Silky soft. Loads of fruit, again, including raisins (ah, the sherry kicks in). Mildly floral. Lavender? More silt, now. More coastal in general. Yes, very spicy while you chew it. Tastes like a slice of orange sprinkled with salt. Very nice.

Finish

The finish is longer, spicier and drying. Very dry at the death.

Comments

This is as lovely as its bourbon cask brother. Pity that both are so extremely expensive.

Nose
A broad array of fruity flavours. Starts on gooseberries and green apples but goes on with fragrant raspberry and lime. Almonds and vanilla, a little uncommon for sherry maturation. Undertones of leather and soft spices. In the background there's also the typical Pulteney coastal note and a delicious waxy veil. Very fresh, with very delicate sherry and lots of juicy fruits.
Taste
Quite fruity again (yellow raisins) although there's a bigger dryness to it as well. Apple seeds. Ginger and cardamom. A tad floral. Some briney notes. Even a hint of peat?
Finish
Quite long, spicy and oaky. Fairly dry again, like a Fino.

Comments

Nice balance of Fino dryness and fruity freshness. Maybe not the most typical Old Pulteney nor the most typical sherry bottling, but a great result, no doubt.

A long-aged, sherry-matured small batch 23yo from Old Pulteney, one of
the Highlands` most under-rated distilleries. Delicious chocolate and
honeycomb flavours.

I like my whisky old and my women young!
