Nase: sehr satter, aber nicht zu dominanter Sherry, Kirsche, Mon Cherie, Rosinen, Orangenpunsch, Rum, Sellerie (!!)
Geschmack: deutlich dunkle Suessee, Kirsche, dann schlaegt die Eiche zu, sehr wuerzig, holzig
Finish:
langanhaltend, natuerlich viel Sherry, dazu Kaffee und Trockenfruechte
(Aprikose), dann wieder die uebermaechtige Eiche, bitter und trocken
werden

Sehr interessante Nase, die richtig Spass macht, im Geschmack und Finish dominiert mir die Eiche viel zu stark

Color

Gin clear

Nose

great balance, old style malt with a touch of beeswax, plums with cinnamon, complex wood (oak, cedar, faint pine needles), tobacco, rum, vanilla beans/pods (94)
Later: turning sweeter, more liquor like, slightly less complex & balanced, but very very pleasant... (94)

Taste

oily, dense, malt, beeswax, plums, streusel-cake, spices, slightly tannic without ever becoming bitter for long, rather in brief peaks inbetween the fruity sweetness (95)
Later: the sweet & exotic fruits sneak into the palate now as well (95)

Finish

more sweet & silky malt, slightly musty, plums again or rather still, something exotic (papaya/maracuja...?), licorice-pine sap/tree gum/beeswax-burnt caramel-cream mixture. (95)
Later: Funnily enough, the brief bitter moments that previously occured on the palate are now more much dominant in the finish...  (92)
The longer you wait & the more the liquid drops, the more intense the bitterness gets. The last sip was very bitter indeed... (82)

Comments

Don't let it breathe for too long or the woody bitterness will take over which is the only downside of this wonderful dram.

Remember - whisky scores and impressions are highly subjective and situational by nature - so don't go and buy whisky according to someone else's taste...

Color

Auburn

Nose

Heavenly. Truly heavenly. Lots of fruity sherry notes: dried apricots, dates, prunes and raspberry jam but also more tropical notes of banana liqueur, . Very jammy, with lots of honey. Hints of vanilla. Big notes of beeswax and pollen. And wonderful oak polish. And milk chocolate. And marshmallows. Simply exquisite.

Taste

Very thick again with rich flavours. Fruit jam all over. Creamy chocolate again. Spices, especially nutmeg and mint. There are quite some oak tannins and dry hints of herbal tea, in fact a bit too much for me. I had this at 93/100 at first, but the more I sipped, the more I was bothered by the wood.

Finish

Long, oaky and spicy, with all kinds of teas.

 

Comments

The nose is near perfect for me. If only it were a little less woody on the palate. I'm thinking the Glen Grant 1972 we selected at the Spirits in the Sky festival (to be bottled in the near future) is slightly better in this respect.
